This page is for all who served on her throughout the years,
for the USS America Carrier Veterans Association, and for the many shipmates that I
continue to run into on a regular basis. Visit the excellent website of the USS America Carrier Veterans Association
for the latest news and information, and to get in touch with other veterans.
I was in Deck Department 2nd Div. I ran the B&A Crane and was a winch operator during
underway replenishment and during docking operations. I called her home from late 1984 to
early 1986. During the "Line Of Death" Med Cruise in 1985 she flexed her mighty
muscle, and pilots from her flight decks gave Libya a punch in the nose that hasn't been
forgotten.
I was lucky to have been able to show my daughter the ship I proudly served on. I will
never forget the time spent within the her maze of passageways and spaces. "Hitting
the Beach" in Cannes, Benidorm, Palma de Mallorca, Rome, Naples, Livorno, Bath,
Taoramina, Catania, Capri, Monaco, and Ft Lauderdale during spring break. It all made me a
much wiser man. Seeing her recently in such disrepair is a sad reminder of days gone by.
It makes me realize the places we have all been with her, and the stories she could tell.
